Tlaxcala
The Land of the Maize
Tlaxcala boasts a rich heritage that predates even the Aztec Empire, with its roots stretching back to ancient Mesoamerican civilizations. This land captivates visitors with its quaint colonial towns, picturesque landscapes, and indigenous traditions that endure to this day. From the majestic ruins of Cacaxtla to the vibrant colors of its traditional textiles, Tlaxcala offers a glimpse into Mexico's diverse cultural tapestry. Crops cover more than half of the state’s land area which allows it to be self-sustaining, yet climate dependent. The summer rainy season will boast the state’s terrain with vibrant greenery, while the winter dry season will reveal Tlaxcala’s skeleton: dry cornfields. At different times of the year you can join local festivities including the statewide “carnaval,” and “the night which no one sleeps.”
